Hollywood star Busy Philipps reveals brain tumour scare
Busy Philipps has revealed that she survived a brain tumour earlier this year.
Busy Philipps feels "grateful" to be alive after being diagnosed with a brain tumour.
The 47-year-old actress was diagnosed with a brain tumour in February, and Busy has recalled feeling petrified at the time.
The actress - who has undergone successful surgery - told People: "I’m grateful that I’m alive."
Busy - who has daughters Birdie, 18, and Cricket, 13, with ex-husband Marc Silverstein - still remembers feeling "really, really scared and overwhelmed with emotion".
Busy's children both dealt with the health scare very differently, too.
The actress - who underwent two separate surgeries - explained: "I just kept saying to her, ‘Birdie, you’re just not in the movie where your mom dies your senior year of high school. That’s just not the movie that you’re in. I promise you.’"
Cricket's reaction was markedly different, though.
Busy shared: "Her reaction when I told her was like, ‘Okay. You’re going to be fine?’ And I was like, ‘I’m totally going to be fine.’ And she’s like, ‘Okay.’"
Busy hopes that her experience will encourage other women to listen to their bodies when they don't feel right.
The actress - who underwent a full-body MRI scan before being diagnosed with a tumour - said: "We are frequently told by doctors that there is nothing to worry about [when] you kind of know that there’s something to worry about. There’s nothing to be afraid of in having information. It’s only empowering."
Meanwhile, Busy previously admitted to struggling with mom guilt.
The actress acknowledged that her career success has come at a cost.
She told SheKnows in 2018: "I don't know if anyone comes to terms with mom guilt or if you just get used to it. I have to fly to New York for a work obligation literally the day of both my children's holiday concerts at school. We asked if we could move the work thing, and we can't, so I'm going to miss them.
"And of course there will be video and pictures, but my heart is a little broken. But at the same time, I know that they're able to see me living my dream and doing the thing that I've always wanted to do since I was their age."
