Miley Cyrus has taken to Instagram to pay tribute to Dolly Parton.
Miley Cyrus has played a heartfelt tribute to Dolly Parton.
The 33-year-old pop star has taken to social media to pay tribute to Dolly, her godmother, who passed away on Tuesday (08.25.26), aged 80.
Miley - who also shared a throwback photo of her godmother - wrote on Instagram: "The feeling of losing my Aunt Dolly is beyond what feels right to share. Our most sacred moments were private and they’ll stay there behind the stage, beneath the glamor and between our hearts.
"What I KNOW is Dolly would want me to feel it, write a song about it, and then continue on and be strong. I have an angel by my side. I always have. One of our last conversations was about music and metamorphosis. [butterflies emoji]
"I will always love her and want to make her proud. My heart breaks for the world, her family and friends who will miss her deeply. We’re in this loss together and we will see her in all of the most beautiful things [heart emoji] @dollyparton (sic)"
Miley previously revealed that Dolly helped her to overcome "devastation and grief" in her life.
The chart-topping singer explained how Dolly helped her to navigate the most difficult moments in her life, like losing her home in the Californian wildfires in 2018.
Speaking to Pamela Anderson for CR Fashion Book, Miley explained: "During the fires, when there was so much devastation and grief, in those moments I always thought of Dolly Parton.
"Through her music and her gift for making people happy, she’s always been medicinal in those times. She always tells me that moments of trauma aren’t times to shut down or give up as entertainers. It’s our duty - one of the reasons we chose this calling - to be a source of joy and inspiration during moments of trouble.
"Of course, it’s sensitive. There’s a balance, and even some controversy, in how people feel you should respond in times like that. But I think the way we showed up reflected who we are as artists."
