The entertainment industry is in mourning after country music icon Dolly Parton passed away on Tuesday, 25 August 2026, aged 80 following a "brief battle with cancer".

Her nephew, and head of security, Bryan Seaver, confirmed the news in a video message, revealing she died peacefully surrounded by loved ones at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville.

The American President ordered that the flag of the United States "be flown at half-staff at the White House and upon all public buildings and grounds, at all military posts and naval stations, and on all naval vessels of the Federal Government in the District of Columbia and throughout the United States and its Territories and possessions until sunset, September 1, 2026" as a mark of respect to Dolly.

Sabrina and Dolly collaborated on a version of the pop star's hit Please Please Please.

Carpenter took to Instagram to remember Parton, writing: "Oh Dolly, the only thing i could say after we first met was 'she really is an angel walking the earth' and 'we look like we could be sisters!' i will cherish our laughter and conversations and i will keep your wisdom, your playful outlook on life, and perfect sense of humor in my pocket for the rainy days. there will never be another you and how lucky are we all to have experienced your singular magic as well as your once in a lifetime voice, songs, and heart. your light will be something the world will search forever to find again i will always love you."

Elton John described Dolly as a "giant of an artist" in his tribute.

He posted to his Instagram Stories: "Shocked and devastated to hear of Dolly’s passing. A giant of an artist – unique and irreplaceable, with the kindest heart.”

The Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger kept it short and sweet describing Dolly as a "wonderful" musician.

On his social media channels, he posted: "What a wonderful songwriter and singer Dolly was. She brought so many people together, we will all miss her so much."

Priscilla Presley recalled the deeply personal connection Dolly’s song I Will Always Love You had to her marriage to Elvis Presley, who died aged 42.

Priscilla said: “I am so saddened to hear of the passing of the incomparable Dolly Parton.

“Dolly brought so much joy, kindness and beautiful music into this world. I will always remember our conversations, and especially the connection we shared through a song that holds such a personal place in my heart – I Will Always Love You.

“After Elvis and I left the courthouse following our divorce, he sang that song to me as we walked down the steps together. Years later, I shared that memory with Dolly.”
