Ian Fleming was more than just Bond
The writer is without a doubt best known for his creation of the suave spy with a license to kill but it is not the only cultural touchstone he created.
Fleming also wrote ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang: The Magical Car’, the story about the fantasmagorical automobile.
Ian claimed to have handwritten the story - which spawned a spawned a 1968 movie musical starring Dick van Dyke, Sally Ann Howes, Lionel Jefferies, 'Goldfinger' villain Gert Frobe and Benny Hill - after his wife Ann confiscated his typewriter in 1961 so he used a pen and paper to record the bedtime tales he told his young son Caspar.
