Thor the walrus returns to the sea

Famous walrus Thor attracted huge crowds in Scarborough during the New Year celebrations and prompted the cancellation of the seaside town's fireworks display to welcome 2023.

The animal arrived in Northumberland harbour and was seen resting on a pontoon, but British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDLMR) confirmed it had left Blyth.

The walrus - also believed to have been spotted swimming off the Hampshire coast last month - is expected to return to its usual Arctic waters.
