The British-Indian model with Punjabi Sikh roots made waves on the Victoria’s Secret runway this year as the show’s only South Asian face. Neelam, who's posed for luxury brands like Burberry, has been vocal about her heritage and her role in increasing South Asian visibility in high fashion.

In an interview with ELLE, she said: “Before I started modelling I didn't realise there was such a big problem because I was so used to being underrepresented. Hopefully I'm helping change that.

I was kind of the first British Indian model to do these kind of things and it's a great milestone but there's a long way to go. At least brands seem to be changing.”
