On-set feud
As tensions between Matt Hooper and Quint begin to rise, so too did things get frosty between Richard Dreyfuss and Robert Shaw who played the characters,
Dreyfuss found it difficult to work with Shaw as the latter actor frequently drank, leading to an alarming amount of film stock being wasted due to Shaw messing up his lines.
Tired of his co-star's behaviour, Dreyfuss threw one of Shaw's drinks overboard during a shoot.
Even for Quint's famous Indianapolis speech, Shaw had been under the influence, though eventually managed to complete the lengthy monologue in one take after a few tries.
