It could have been a different cast
Roy Scheider and Richard Dreyfuss will forever be attached thanks to Jaws, but the actors weren't always set to star in the movie.
Shockingly, Scheider wasn't even in contention for Chief Martin Brody until he overheard director Steven Spielberg talking to a friend about the scene where the shark jumps out of the water and onto Quint’s boat.
Impressed by what he was hearing, Scheider went over to Spielberg and begged the director for a role in the movie for him, and due to his enthusiasm, the director agreed.
As for Dreyfuss' Matt Hooper, the part had been offered to Jeff Bridges and Jon Voight, while Timothy Bottoms auditioned for the role.
Eventually, Spielberg's best friend and fellow director George Lucas, suggested Dreyfuss after he had worked with him on American Graffiti.
Spielberg soon asked the actor if he wanted the part, and he signed on in no time.
