Production mayhem
Production on Jaws did not go swimmingly.
Originally, Steven Spielberg was given $4 million to make the flick, though the budget eventually inflated to $9 million due to its nightmarish production, with the faulty shark animatronics - of which their were three all called 'Bruce' -delaying the filming schedule.
From the outset, principal photography on Jaws was only meant to last for 65 days, though that number eventually shot up to 159 because of Spielberg's insistence of shooting the bulk of the movie on the ocean off the coast of the Massachusetts island Martha's Vineyard.
This came with a whole host of problems. Sailboats wandered into shots, cameras broke after getting wet, and the famed ship The Orca sank.
