Spreading his Wings
The breakup of The Beatles marked a new chapter in Sir Paul McCartney’s career, not the end.
In 1971, he formed the rock band Wings alongside his wife Linda on keyboard, former Moody Blues guitarist Denny Laine, and drummer Denny Seiwell.
Reflecting on the band’s creation, McCartney said: “Wings were always a difficult idea … any group having to follow [the Beatles’] success would have a hard job … I found myself in that very position.
“However, it was a choice between going on or finishing, and I loved music too much to think of stopping.”
Among Wings’ standout achievements was the 1973 James Bond theme Live and Let Die, featured in the film of the same name.
