A different instrument

Sir Paul McCartney is best known as the bass guitarist and vocalist of The Beatles, but his first instrument was actually the trumpet.

His father, James McCartney - who had played trumpet and piano in a jazz band during the 1920s - gave Paul a trumpet for his 14th birthday.

Not long after, McCartney swapped the trumpet for a guitar.
