Reese Witherspoon’s most iconic role is perhaps that of Elle Woods in ‘Legally Blonde’, but the actress wasn’t always destined to play the sorority queen.

Instead, Christina Applegate could have portrayed Elle Woods as she was offered the part first, though the 53-year-old actress turned it down as she thought the role would be too similar to her character in the sitcom ‘Married … with Children’.

Applegate recounted: “I got scared of repeating myself. What a stupid move that was, right? [But] Reese deserved that.

“She did a much better job than I ever could, and so that’s her life, that’s her path.”
