She almost missed out on 'Ghost'

Whoopi won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her performance as Oda Mae Brown in the 1990 picture 'Ghost' but nearly missed out on the part as her persona was "too big" until an intervention from leading man Patrick Swayze.

She recalled in 2020: "I'd never met him but he was a fan!"
