The 'Sonic the Hedgehog' star had been working on the US comedy circuit for a number of years but it was 1994 when he became a bona fide movie star.

Over the course of the year, he starred in hit films 'Ace Ventura: Pet Detective', 'The Mask' and 'Dumb and Dumber'.

Although known for comedy, Carrey has also been acclaimed for more serious roles in 'The Truman Show' and 'Man on the Moon'.
