Impressing the director
Haley Joel Osment’s audition for Cole Sear was so good that M. Night Shyamalan told his casting director he wouldn’t be prepared to make the flick unless the young actor was chosen for the role.
Haley’s father, Eugene Michael Osment, was well-versed in the showbiz world as he had worked as a film and stage actor and made sure that his son read the entire screenplay twice.
He also told the young performer to consider ‘The Sixth Sense’ as a "communication" picture instead of a horror flick, which changed how Haley perceived the film and his approach to the audition.
