When the movie was released in cinemas in August 1999, ‘The Sixth Sense’ nearly immediately proved to be a smash-hit.
On a budget of roughly $40 million (plus an additional $25 million for marketing) the film grossed a $26.6 million on its opening weekend, making it the biggest August release ever.
In the US and Canada alone, the flick made over $293 million surpassing ‘Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back’ to become the tenth highest grossing picture of all time in the territory.
By the time it had left theatres, ‘The Sixth Sense’ had earned over $672 million worldwide.
