'Speed' is a particular highlight in Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock's careers, but the actors weren't actually the first choices for their parts.

For police officer Jack Traven, the likes of Tom Hanks, Tom Cruise, Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson were all approached for the part

When 20th Century Fox took over the movie, the company offered Stephen Baldwin the part instead.

Stephen rejected the role however, citing that Jack was too similar to Die Hard's John McClane - played by Bruce Willis - allowing Keanu Reeves to take the part.

As for Annie Porter, the role was offered to Meryl Streep Streep and Kim Basinger, while writer Graham Yost wanted to give the part to Ellen DeGeneres.

All of the actresses turned the movie down, which meant Sandra Bullock was cast as Annie.
