Axed love triangle

‘Mission: Impossible’ is nearly all-action but there was going to be a romantic sub-plot that ran throughout the film.

Originally, Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise), Jim Phelps (Jon Voight) and his wife Claire (Emmanuelle Beart) were going to be caught in a love triangle but not everyone loved the idea.

After Brian De Palma told his friend George Lucas about the planned sub-plot, the ‘Star Wars’ visionary advised him to remove it from the movie because it was "out of the genre".

The director agreed and the love triangle never saw the light of day.
