Expected flop
As it was going up against ‘Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade’, ‘Ghostbusters II’ ‘Batman’ and ‘Licence to Kill’, Columbia Pictures didn’t expect ‘When Harry Met Sally’ to perform well at the box office, and so only released it to 41 cinemas.
However, the studio was taken by surprise after it earned $1 million on the opening weekend, and ended its theatrical run with an impressive $93 million.
The movie also saw Oscar success after it was nominated for and won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.
