Close Encounters of the Third Kind
Spielberg looks back fondly on the 1977 sci-fi film and explained that he wanted good cinema to be at the heart of the movie that featured Richard Dreyfuss in the lead role.
He said: "Before fire and skyscrapers and floods, plane crashes, laser fire and spaceships, they want good stories. That was the reason I spent so much time on the story of 'Close Encounters', because I didn’t just want to make a U.F.O. movie, where something lands, people get on, and it takes off again.
"I figured I had to write a mystery story. As opposed to just a special effects movie. Movies for me are a heightened reality. Making reality fun to live with, as opposed to something you run from and protect yourself from."
