Godzilla (2014)
It was 16 years later that Hollywood felt like it was time to give Godzilla another runout on the big screen.
Starring Elizabeth Olsen, Bryan Cranston and Aaron Taylor-Johnson, ‘Godzilla’ sees the reptile behemoth arise from the sea to combat MUTOs - giant parasitic titans - which endangers San Francisco.
Reflecting on the film, director Gareth Edwards explained that he tried to capture the idea of “man v nature” in the picture, while showing the scaly menace had somewhat evolved from his 1954 debut.
He said: "There's definitely a strong theme in the film, and in simplest terms it's kind of ‘man v. nature’, and when we started off in the process of defining Godzilla, what is he about, what makes a Godzilla movie, what makes a monster movie. We were brainstorming and watching all the old movies again, the thing that comes through is that in some movies, he's slightly evolved and represents different things, but he's always a force of nature like the wrath of God that comes to put us back in our place when we kind of thing we own the world.”
‘Godzilla’ was a major box office hit, making $529 million after it finished its theatrical run.
