He played Butch Coolidge, an ageing boxer who has to go on the run after double-crossing crime boss Marsellus Wallace by refusing to throw a fight.
The role came after a number of his films flopped, but the success of 'Pulp Fiction' bought him new respect as an actor in Tarantino's story.
The movie grossed to a near $213 million worldwide, earning back its $8 million budget and quickly became regarded as one of the most significant films of its era.
