E.T's voice
E.T.'s face wasn't the only part of the character that was inspired by multiple things, as the alien's voice was also made up of plenty of different people – and animals too!
Initially, Pat Welsh recorded all of the dialogue for the character, and landed the job after sound designer Ben Burtt heard her raspy tone at a local camera store.
Ben then incorporated a wide assortment of animals into Pat's performance to give E.T. his distinctive voice.
The sound designer later said: "There are raccoons in there, there are sea otters, there are some horses, there's a burp from my old cinema professor from USC [University of Southern California]."
