Anne Hathaway reveals movie that inspired her to join The End of Oak Street
Anne Hathaway has opened up about her decision to join the cast of The End of Oak Street.
The End of Oak Street script reminded Anne Hathaway of Poltergeist.
The Oscar-winning actress stars in the new sci-fi survival film alongside Ewan McGregor, Maisy Stella and Christian Convery, and Anne has revealed what convinced her to commit to the project.
In a clip shared with People, Anne explained: "Reading it, it reminded me of one of my favourite movies from when I was a kid — which I probably shouldn’t have watched when I was a kid, but still, it was great — which was Poltergeist.
"And when I connected with David [Robert Mitchell, the director], I mentioned that as a reference and he said, ‘That’s what I was going for.’ I just said ‘Well, I don’t know what’s going to happen next, but please sign me up. I want to be in this world.’"
Hannah Minghella, the film's producer, explained that Anne was the first actor or actress that they approached for the movie.
She shared: "Anne Hathaway was the first person to join the project, actually very early on, before we’d even set up the movie with Warner Bros. She came on really early and saw, I think, the vision for the film that we all saw."
The End of Oak Street centres on a family of four in suburban Michigan whose lives are transformed when their neighbourhood is transported into prehistoric times.
Ewan explained: "As much as the dinosaur action is incredible and insane, if you don’t have a believable family at the heart of it that you cared about, it wouldn’t matter so much."
Meanwhile, Anne recently revealed that she's relished her jam-packed work schedule in 2026.
The 43-year-old actress has starred in a host of big-budget movies already this year, including Mother Mary, The Devil Wears Prada 2, The Odyssey and The End of Oak Street - but Anne has embraced the busyness of it all.
She told The Hollywood Reporter: "When I got my schedule for this year from all the wonderful film studios that I’ve worked with, I saw it and I kind of thought I was being punked.
"But then they showed me that no, no, no, all these [release] dates were going to hold and I just said as long as audiences don’t get sick of my face — which I wouldn’t blame them, I would not blame them if they did — let’s go."
The actress is currently promoting The End of Oak Street, which was written, co-produced, and directed by David, and Anne feels particularly proud of the project.
She said: "It’s David Robert Mitchell in the director’s chair, directing a script that he wrote, and I’ve never seen anything like this so I was just really happy to be a part of it."
