Terrified actors
The infamous chestburster scene, in which a Xenomorph breaks through from Kane’s (John Hurt) torso, is one of the most memorable in sci-fi and horror cinema history.
To capture the crew's shocked reactions on film, Ridley Scott purposefully kept details about the scene hidden from the actors, and simply handed everyone a raincoat.
Sigourney Weaver recalled: “Everyone was wearing raincoats - we should have been a little suspicious. And, oh God, the smell. It was just awful. All I could think of was John, frankly. I wasn't even thinking that we were making a movie. Look, I worked with Roman Polanski on ‘Death and the Maiden’ - he would shoot a gun off. You can act, sure, but when you're surprised, that's gold.”
