Whoopi Goldberg
The powerful 1985 film ‘The Color Purple’ marked Whoopi Goldberg’s breakthrough role.
Her moving performance as Celie Harris Johnson, an abused woman living in early 20th-century rural Hartwell, Georgia, earned much acclaim and an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress.
In an interview on ‘The Howard Stern Show’, Whoopi will never forget the knowledge Spielberg had of movies.
She recalled: “The great thing for me about Steven Spielberg was his knowledge of film. He would say, 'Did you ever see 'Koyaanisqatsi'?' And I said, 'Yeah, I saw that.' And he'd say, ‘Well, remember when the sun is coming up and there is all the steam on the trees and stuff, that's the feeling I want.'"
