Al Corley quit his role as Steven Carrington when writers told him they would CURE his homosexuality

As Steve Carrington, Al Corley played the first openly gay character on a soap opera. But when writers old him they intended to "cure" him of his homosexuality, he quite and the character appeared to have been killed off in an oil rig explosion.

He said: "I just felt there was nowhere to go with the character unless they were willing to explore a gay character."
