These days 'Dynasty' is regarded as one of the world's greatest soap operas. It centered on the ongoing feud between two wealthy families in America - the Colbys and the Carringtons.

Conceived with the working title 'Dynasty Was Oil', the series was meant as a rival to fellow soap 'Dallas'. Ratings for the first season were generally poor and always fell outside of the top 10, but the arrival of Joan Collins changed that.
