Jason Alexander didn't think Seinfeld would be successful
After reading the script for the sitcom, Jason Alexander thought it was hilarious and brilliant.
However, Jason didn't think it would be a hit with viewers because it was a show written by comedians - Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David - for comedians.
Jason - who played Jerry's best friend George Costanza - said: "From the moment I saw the script I thought it would be the most brilliant thing I'd ever be part of, and that it would not run for even a day. Because the audience for this show is me, and I don't watch TV … But I don't think anyone is more surprised by the success of ['Seinfeld'] than we are, because we thought, ‘Oh, we'll amuse ourselves, and that'll be it. We'll have a videotape at the end of it that we could play at parties.’”
