Harrison Ford begged George Lucas to kill off Han
Han Solo sadly bit the bullet in 2015 sequel 'The Force Awakens', but had Harrison Ford had his way, the space smuggler would have died a lot sooner.
Ford hadn’t signed on for all three movies from the outset, and George Lucas was unsure if Harrison Ford would reprise his role for 'Return of the Jedi', and so opted to freeze him in carbonite in 'The Empire Strikes Back' whilst his fate was undetermined.
Although the actor eventually agreed to return for the 1983 movie, Ford begged George to give the character an epic moment of self-sacrifice in the film's third act.
Recalling his feelings, the 'Indiana Jones' star said: "I thought Han Solo should die. I thought he ought to sacrifice himself for [Luke and Leia]. He’s got no mama. He’s got no papa. He’s got no future. He has no story responsibilities at this point. So let’s allow him to commit self-sacrifice.”
