John Matuszak's lengthy stint in the makeup chair

In order for John Matuszak to become deformed character Sloth, the actor had to sit in the makeup chair for a painfully long time.

For up to five hours everyday, John would sit whilst his makeup was applied, and wait for all of the mechanics that worked his disfigurements to be installed.

Sloth’s lopsided eye was operated by a remote control offscreen, and the cast was told not to get him wet to avoid breaking the mechanics. Unfortunately, the machine did get wet at one point, which delayed production for an entire day.
