Deep Purple and Peter DeRose
The hard rock band known for songs like ‘Smoke in the Water’ and ‘Hush,’ was named after a track titled ‘Deep Purple’, originally written in 1933 by pianist Peter DeRose, and eventually popularized by April Stevens and Nino Tempo in 1963. However, the reason behind the band’s decision was rather sweet. According to Grunge magazine, the song was guitarist Ritchie Blackmore’s grandmother’s favorite one, and she used to play it very often when he was little.
