Stepping behind the camera
Emerald's most decorated work is her 2020 movie 'Promising Young Woman', which follows Cassandra Thomas (Carey Mullighan) who takes it upon herself to seek revenge on the man who caused her best friend to end her life.
The movie bagged a plethora of awards, including an Oscar for Emerald for Best Original Screenplay.
After winning the Academy Award, she joked about not writing a speech because she didn’t expect to win, but ever gracious Emerald made it clear that the victory was a team effort.
She said: "All I can say is — trying hard not to cry, which is difficult as an English person, who doesn’t cry, ever — this film was made by the most incredible people in the world. We made it in 23 days, and they just brought their complete genius and love and humour to it.”
