The 48-year-old musician - who was born in Hounslow, London, and has Sri Lankan heritage - has voiced her grievances about British politics and the country's imperialist past.

She said: "Britain's colonial past has left a dark stain, and we must address the consequences. Let's not turn a blind eye to the struggles of the forgotten Sri Lankans."
