Bill Clinton didn't think he'd be able to wangle his way backstage to meet Taylor Swift at her 'Eras Tour' show.

The 78-year-old former president of the United States and his wife Hillary Clinton, 77, took their daughter, Chelsea, 44, granddaughter, Charlotte, 10, and a group of their friends to the 34-year-old pop superstar's concert in Toronto recently - but Clinton didn't think he stood a chance trying to get access to the 'Lover' hitmaker.

Appearing on 'Live With Kelly and Mark', he was asked by host Kelly Ripa: “Do they look at you and go, ‘If anybody can get us backstage, it’s you?’”

To which Clinton replied: “They didn’t, and I probably couldn’t have. We didn’t [go backstage].”

The politician - who served as the 42nd president from 1993 to 2001 - was blown away by Taylor's epic concert, which exceeds three hours, and now understands why she has such a massive appeal and praised the Grammy winner for her dedication to her Swifties.

Clinton said: “I’d never been to one of her concerts before … I get it now. I understand why she has such an impact on people, and why a lot of these young girls are so captivated."

He continued: “I was fascinated watching our crowd of kids, especially my granddaughter, standing there with the wife of one of Chelsea’s friends from 20-plus years ago and her daughters and all of them up there singing. They knew all the words to all the songs.”
