Rio Ferdinand is planning to pester James Corden about the plot of the upcoming ‘Gavin and Stacey’ special.

The beloved BBC Three comedy, written by James, 45, and Ruth Jones, 57, is set to return for a final festive on-off later this year, and former footballer Rio, 45, has admitted he’s determined to get details about the episode out of his friend.

He was quoted by the Daily Star newspaper saying: “I will be stalking him as it gets closer.

“I’ll be seeing him a lot more now ‘Gavin and Stacey’ is coming.”

Last week, James and Ruth finally revealed ‘Gavin and Stacey’ would be returning to screens for the final time.

They posted a picture to James’ Instagram of the pair holding up the script for ‘Gavin and Stacey: The Finale’, and added the caption: “It's official! We have finished writing the last ever episode of ‘Gavin and Stacey’.

“See you on Christmas Day, BBC One. Love Ruth and James.”

Although it is not confirmed at the moment, it is probable the original ‘Gavin and Stacey’ cast – which included Mathew Horne, Joanna Page, Larry Lamb, Alison Steadman and Rob Brydon – will be reprising their roles in what will be their final outing as their characters.

Previously, it had been heavily rumoured the show would be returning for another festive episode this year, but Ruth insisted the story was simply just gossip.

She told RTE Radio 1: “All I can say is, if there was something to say on that front, James and I would happily announce it, we would.”
