Lauren Cowell jokes funeral might come sooner than wedding bells after 13 year relationship
Lauren Cowell has joked about her relationship with Simon Cowell, with the couple not married yet despite being together since 2012 and engaged for four years.
Lauren Cowell has joked a funeral could come before a wedding "at the rate we're going".
The 48-year-old socialite has been engaged to media mogul Simon Cowell since 2021, and she quipped that despite changing her name to take on her partner's moniker, marriage could still be a way off.
Asked by Extra's Terri Seymour if she needs "to be buying a hat anytime soon", Lauren replied: "You mean like for a wedding? Is that what that means?”
When the presenter joked that she meant "for a funeral", Lauren quipped: "Well, who knows which one is going to happen first at the rate we're going?”
Lauren and Simon have 11-year-old son Eric together, and they are given people a hint at their lives in new Netflix docu-series Simon Cowell: The Next Act.
She teased: "It's a lot. Simon on his own is bad enough, but now to have Eric as his little sidekick — it's just diabolical.”
Lauren insisted she "didn't have a choice" about the docu-series, as she only found out about the filming two days before it started.
She said: "Let's just set the record straight, though... I didn't have a choice.
"The cameras were here, and they were here for two years. I would have had to move out of the house!”
The couple have been together since 2012, and last year she decided to change her last name to Cowell.
In the documentary, she explained that she kept her ex-husband Andrew Silverman's last name for the sake of their son Adam but she decided to change it once he turned 18 last year.
She said: "I kept it for him ... [But] I don’t really want to have my ex-husband’s last name anymore."
When explaining her decision to change her last name to Cowell prior to their marriage, she added: "That just feels right for now. Not ‘for now,’ but I mean now, forever!"
