Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex ‘working on bunch of fresh projects for Netflix’
After the couple were dealt a massive blow by the streaming giant Spotify when their £15 million contract with the firm ended early in June 2023, Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex are said to be working on a “bunch” of fresh projects for Netflix.
Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex are said to be working on a “bunch” of fresh projects for Netflix.
The royal, 39, and his ex-actress wife, 42, were dealt a massive blow by the streaming giant Spotify when their £15 million contract with the firm ended early in June 2023.
But Netflix’s chief content officer Bela Bajaria has now revealed the pair are working on new projects, including ones that are “unscripted”.
She told a Netflix promotional event in Hollywood the couple “actually have a bunch (of projects) in development” under the banner of their Archewell Productions company.
Bela added they were working on “a couple of unscripted things”, which are thought to be documentaries, as well as a film and series.
They are all said to be in “very early development”.
The Times, which reported Bela’s comments, added it is thought the film apparently in the works is an adaptation of romance novel ‘Meet Me at the Lake’ or a new project.
It was announced last year Harry and Meghan had acquired the rights to the novel by Carley Fortune, which is set in Toronto where Meghan lived while filming the television drama ‘Suits’.
Bela’s comments come after the pair faced uncertainty over whether Netflix would renew their five-year £80 million streaming deal which was signed in 2020.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have so far released three programmes via Netflix, with the couple’s ‘Harry and Meghan’ docuseries being the streaming company’s most successful documentary launch in December 2022.
But the company ditched ‘Pearl’, an animated series on which Meghan had been working.
The mum-of-two, who has son Archie, four, and daughter Lilibet, two, with Harry, has dropped hints about their future Netflix projects.
She told Variety in November she wanted to produce “things that make people feel something” and “feel a sense of community”.
Meghan added she and Harry had “so many exciting things on the slate”, saying: “I can’t wait until we can announce them. We’re just really proud of what we’re creating, and my husband is loving it too.”
