Susanna Reid issues damning warning about AI and breakfast TV: 'It worries me'
Good Morning Britain presenter Susanna Reid has warned of the impact of AI on vital television journalism.
Susanna Reid is worried AI will take the heart out of breakfast television.
The Good Morning Britain star, who has been a lead presenter on the show since 2014 after a 13-year stint with BBC Breakfast, admitted she is "savouring" her career on screen in case technological changes cause a dramatic shift in the industry.
She told Woman and Home magazine: "I'm savouring every moment in television because who knows at what point I might be replaced by an AI version?
"We disappear into our own algorithms - people just want their own interests and it worries me.
"When you're in news, current affairs and journalism like I am, you are appealing to a breakfast audience with a million different interests.
"You are keeping people's spirits up with entertainment, but at the same time delivering difficult, challenging news about the economy and world events.
"If we have an AI version of super-highly tailored news, you would lose that sense of 'I didn't realise I wanted to know about that' or 'That didn't occur to me.' "
Despite her concerns, the 55-year-old star insisted she isn't looking "beyond" her current role.
Susanna explained: "I don't think beyond GMB. I won't until the moment someone says, 'Thanks very much. You can have a lie-in tomorrow!'
"It's very important to accept that you're not going to work forever at a particular job. For whatever reason, things change.
"There will always be other things. Maybe I'll have my own podcast - I'm a massive podcast fan."
And despite spending around three decades on screen and in the public eye, Susanna revealed she's been able to keep some aspects of her life under wraps.
She said: "I have an area that is public and people know about, and then there are parts of my life that aren't."
Asked if that means the public could find out she's secretly married one day, Susanna laughed: "That would be a discovery for me as well."
