Sara Pascoe and Harry Hill claim Would I Lie To You is 'an audience with Lee Mack'
Sara Pascoe and Harry Hill have revealed what working on Would I Lie To You is really like.
Sara Pascoe had described Would I Lie To You as "an audience with Lee Mack".
The 45-year-old comedian, who has been a panellist on the BBC show a number of times over the years, opened up about her experience on set after Harry Hill, 61, admitted he "didn't like" his own appearance because of the focus on the team captain.
Speaking on The Harry Hill Show, he explained: "[It's] because Lee Mack doesn't stop talking. It's like, 'Give us a chance, Lee!' "
Sara replied: "I think this is what I would say to any new comic or anyone who's invited on that show - it's an audience with Lee Mack.
"You just have to reframe it [as] 'You're so lucky to be front row at a Lee Mack gig'. [laughs]
"And that's why I like doing it actually. The worst thing you can do is try and interrupt it."
Harry admitted it took him "about an hour" to realise not to interrupt the quick witted comic in mid flow during filming.
He added: "But he is brilliant, and obviously that's what people are watching [for]."
Sara laughed and said the studio audience "will rip you limb from limb if you do interrupt him".
Harry deadpanned that the audience is only there "to see him and the other two", referring to opposing captain David Mitchell and host Rob Brydon.
Sara pointed out: "And it's magic, the three of them, I think they work so well together."
Harry agreed, comparing the way they work on screen together to "a sitcom", adding: "There's a chemistry, you can't manufacture that."
Would I Lie To You first aired in June 2007, and has returned every year since, with 19 series to date.
The most recent, which featured guests including everyone from Jools Holland, Beverley Knight and Richard Osman to Jason Isaacs, David Morrissey and Holly Willoughby.
Lee and David have been regular team captains since the very first series, while Rob replaced Angus Deayton as host from the third run in 2009.
