Richard Ayoade and Matt Lucas set for new season of Taskmaster
The line-up for the upcoming 22nd season of Taskmaster has been announced.
Richard Ayoade and Matt Lucas are among the stars taking part in the next series of Taskmaster.
The Travel Man star and the former Great British Bake Off presenter will be joined by Peep Show's Isy Suttie, comedian and ventriloquist Nina Conti, and comic Chloe Petts on season 22 of the show, which will see them attempt to impress Greg Davies and his assistant Alex Horne.
The new line-up was confirmed after the season 21 final aired, which saw Joanna Page claim the title of Taskmaster Champion with 149 points.
She was followed by Kumail Nanjiani on 145, Amy Gledhill on 143, Armando Iannucci with 141, and Joel Dommett trailing well behind in last place with 127.
In March, Alex confirmed filming on season 22 was almost complete.
He teased to Radio Times: "I could give you a sneaky bit of information for the distant future. We have got an Oscar winner in a future [season]."
And the presenter admitted he was initially daunted to work with The Thick of It creator Armando.
He said: "He's a comedy legend and a very clever man, you'd think. Not on Taskmaster! It turns out Armando is an idiot, which is so nice to [know].
"I found him quite daunting to meet and work with, but within five minutes, you realise he's the same as everyone else - he crumbles under pressure."
Meanwhile, Alex - who first created the Channel 4 series as a live stage show at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival - recently revealed he loves the idea of a Taskmaster World Cup, featuring winners from the shows' different global formats, but TV bosses "aren't that interested".
He told Richard Herring's Leicester Square Theatre Podcast Book Club: "I would love that. I used to love International Gladiators. Also Going for Gold.
"But I think commissioners aren't that interested. They don't want to see [a] Swedish person particularly.
"But I think that's interesting. I'd love to see that."
Alex also played down excitement over a potential Champion of Champion of Champions series for the hit show, which sees comedians battle it out in a series of bizarre and whacky challenges.
He explained: "We're not at that stage yet – we've still got one more Champion of Champions to go before we even consider that.
"I do have a slight hunch that you should leave people wanting more. And you shouldn't always give people what they want.
"But I also think more people would prefer to watch a Loser of Losers, because that's what I get asked most, but I also have a problem with rewarding failure!"
