Jade Thirlwall turned down The Celebrity Traitors because she had prior festival commitments.

The 33-year-old singer was asked to take part in the BBC series, and despite being "obsessed" with the programme, she was forced to reject the opportunity.

Speaking to Pitchfork, she said: "The Traitors - I’m obsessed. I think it’s one of the best TV shows of recent times.

"I was actually asked to do one recently, but I was doing the festival sets, so I couldn’t do it."

Jade believes The Traitors is an "underrated" show, and she has called for more versions of the ultimate game of deception and betrayal to be played "in every country" and "in every town".

She added: "But yeah, I love it. I think it’s great.

"I think it's still underrated.

"I feel like it needs to happen in every country, in every town, in all the towns and everything."

While Jade won't be part of The Celebrity Traitors series two line-up, Little Mix will still be represented on the upcoming season.

Jade's pal Leigh-Anne Pinnock, 34, is set to appear in the new series, and her Little Mix bandmate Perrie Edwards thinks Leigh-Anne has the credentials to be a successful Traitor in the BBC show.

She recently said on the Hanging Out with Ant + Dec podcast: "Oh she is so annoying, I already know she is going to annoy me.

"You don't understand how infuriating it is, she would lie about silly things, so she would do pranks and we'd be like, 'Leigh-Anne that's...' and she'd be like 'it's a prank' and I'm like, 'That's not a prank you've just lied, it's just annoying'.

"And so I don't know if I've got it in me to watch her do that for a full series."

But if Perrie does tune in to see how Leigh-Anne is getting on, it will be the first time she has ever watched the Claudia Winkleman-hosted series.

She explained: "I've never seen it, never! I can't get into it but now I am going to have to because Leigh-Anne's on it and so I need to watch it now!"

Last year, comedian Alan Carr became the first-ever winner of The Celebrity Traitors.

Traitor Alan was victorious after successfully "murdering" several Faithful contestants, including his own friend, singer Paloma Faith.
