Emily Atack does not mind people addressing her as "Big T**s" - a reference to her Charlotte “Big Jugs” Hinchcliffe alter ego in The Inbetweeners.

The 36-year-old actress thinks people calling her by the nickname mean it with affection, rather than as an insult.

Appearing on the latest episode of The Romesh Ranganathan Show, Emily said: "My name is just 'Big T**s’. People come up to me, and they go, ‘Big T**s, can I have a photo?’ Actual strangers.

"I could be in the street, I could be at the garden centre having a jacket potato in the cafe, it could be anything. And even the lovely post lady I have, she goes, 'Hello, Big T**s, can you just sign that for me?’

"It went from Charlotte ‘Big Jugs’, and now it’s just ‘Big T**s.'"

Emily would normally find the moniker offensive, but she has learned to embrace it.

The entertainer said: "I shout it from the rooftops how against all of this I am, but it’s just people genuinely don’t even mean it in that way.

"They just go, 'Oh, Big T**s, my mum absolutely loves you.’ Or I see people whispering in a restaurant, and they go, ‘It’s Emily Atack, oh, yeah, Big T**s.’

“It’s just they don’t even see it in that derogatory way. So you just have to embrace it.”

Emily shot to fame with E4’s The Inbetweeners, playing Charlotte, the most attractive and popular girl in Rudge Park Comprehensive, who acts as the primary love interest of Will McKenzie (Simon Bird).

And Emily will happily talk about the sitcom with fans.

She added: “It’s something I’m very proud of. I was 16 when I auditioned. It was the best time of my life.”

Emily admitted Charlotte was hers after the star told the show’s bosses that she was “made” for the role in the audition room.

The comedienne said: "Now knowing, that’s funny to think, isn’t it, because I would never say that now, but I was so naive.

"I think it was like my second ever audition, and me and my sister were living in this flat, and I had no money, I had to pay the rent. And I went in there going, 'Well, I have to get this job. I’ve got to support me and my sister.

"I needed to become a famous actress quick because I had to pay rent. So I went in, and I saw all these other girls. I think hundreds of girls auditioned for Charlotte Hinchcliffe.

"I had to even bang the door down to get an audition. And I just knew it was mine.

"And I said to them just on the way out, ‘This role is made for me. There is nobody in that room that can do that better than me.’

"And they just went, ‘Thank you.’ And I walked out, and I was like, 'F*, I shouldn’t have said that.’

“But I got the part that day.”
