Emily Atack cast in 'glossy' BBC drama Reputation
Emily Atack has signed up to feature alongside Naomie Harris and Christina Hendricks in the BBC's "glossy" legal drama Reputation.
Emily Atack has joined the cast of BBC legal drama Reputation.
The Rivals star will feature alongside James Bond actress Naomie Harris and Mad Men star Christina Hendricks in the “glossy” new series from writer Anya Reiss, which sees formidable lawyer Lena (Harris) embroiled in the celebrity case of global pop star Davina Knight (Hendricks).
Emily’s role is yet to be disclosed, but she will feature in an ensemble that also includes Kyle Soller (Andor), Alex Jennings (The Crown) and David Gyasi (The Diplomat).
A synopsis for the show, which is produced by The Forge, reads: "Reputation is an audacious and glossy new drama that shows what happens when a celebrity legal battle spirals out of control.
"After Davina releases a provocative new song accusing her ex-husband, Billy (Soller), of abusive behaviour and he retaliates in kind, their private breakdown erupts into a very public libel battle."
The synopsis continues: "The case is fought far beyond the courtroom, as PR machines are deployed, laws are bent and social media platforms become judge, jury and battleground – driving outrage for clicks and warping the truth.
"For Lena, the case puts her own personal life in the line of fire. How far will she go to win and at what cost? And for Davina, how far will she go to protect her reputation?"
Harris said in a statement: "I was hooked from page one of Reputation. It's so rare to read scripts with the wit and flair of Anya's writing and I knew straight away that I wanted to play Lena."
Hendricks added: "Davina's a fantastic, fierce character. I'm so looking forward to working with Naomie and I'm delighted to be working again with The Forge."
Emily plays the role of Sarah Stratton in the raunchy Disney+ series Rivals - which recently returned to screens for a second season - and explained that she wants to carry on playing “sexy women” for as long as she is able.
The 36-year-old actress said at the Edinburgh TV Festival last year: “There are roles that come along and the term ‘typecast’ is always seen as this negative thing.
“I’ve been typecast my whole life and I loved every single minute of it.
“I will carry on playing these sexy women for as long as they will have me.”
