BBC renews Amandaland for another series
The BBC has announced that Amandaland has been renewed for a third series.
Amandaland has been renewed for a third series.
The comedy show - which stars Lucy Punch, Joanna Lumley and Philippa Dunne - is set to return for another series, following the success of series two and the record-breaking Christmas Special episode.
Co-writer and creator Holly Walsh and co-writer Laurence Rickard said: "We are thrilled to be heading back to SoHa for a third series of Amandaland and delighted the show has found the sort of audience that Amanda’s Instagram account could only dream of.
"We are already priming our keyboards to prompt AI into creating another batch of scripts and can’t wait to be reunited with our incredible cast and crew."
Seb Barwell, the BBC Comedy Commissioning Editor, is also thrilled that Amandaland - which follows Amanda as she seeks to build her profile as a super influencer - is returning for another series.
Seb said: "Amanda and friends continue to capture the hearts of the nation, so we’re delighted to announce a third series and to keep up our 'co-lab' with this amazing team.”
Lucy Punch previously discussed the show's success, observing that many people think they "know” a woman like the lead character.
The actress told Radio Times: "Everyone says they know an Amanda, but she’s based on a lot of people I’ve come across.
"She’s lots of little pieces. She’s not a caricature; there’s stuff that’s endearing, and stuff that’s horrific and obnoxious. She can’t just be one thing, otherwise she’d have no friends and not be able to function."
Lucy also acknowledged that while she's like her on-screen character in some ways, she's very different in others.
The actress said: "I’m hopeful like she is, and can find the positive in a situation. I hope I’m a lot more self-aware, not as pretentious and snobby."
Lucy has also been shocked by the longevity of her own character, who first appeared in Motherland, the BBC sitcom that ran for three series.
Asked if the character's longevity was a surprise, Lucy replied: "I couldn’t have imagined 10 years later I’d be here, but that first script was incredible, as was the cast. And here we are."
