Beverley Callard reveals moment I'm A Celebrity South Africa bosses knew they had to send her home
Coronation Street legend Beverley Callard broke down in tears on Tuesday night (21.04.26) when she watched her I'm A Celebrity... South Africa exit, and she revealed show bosses made the decision after she "lost consciousness for a little while" in the programme's Bush Telegraph.
Beverley Callard had to leave I'm A Celebrity... South Africa on medical grounds after she "lost consciousness for a little while" in the show's Bush Telegraph.
The Coronation Street icon, 69, got emotional as she recalled how show bosses told her she couldn't remain on the programme, and unbeknown to her at the time, that was the beginning of her breast cancer battle.
Reflecting on her I'm A Celebrity departure - which was shown on Tuesday night's (21.04.26) episode of the series - a tearful Beverley said in an Instagram video: "I just watched my exit on I'm A Celeb and it made me cry all over again. Of course, I didn't know then that I had cancer, but I just knew that it was the last couple of days there that I hadn't felt very well.
"What happened was, I was called into the Bush Telegraph and apparently, I lost consciousness for a little while. I went yonderly, as they say. I just wasn't feeling myself.
"They took me to a medical hut and they were amazing. They really looked after me and they said, 'You can't go back.'
"And I said, 'Don't send me home, I'm sure I'll be fine. I've jumped off a plane and hung off a cliff.'
"I wanted to succeed and make it through to the end, but that was the start of everything."
But Beverley has vowed to "beat" breast cancer.
She added: "It's made me really emotional, but I will beat this. I will beat it."
Beverley's tearful exit aired on Tuesday night's I'm A Celebrity... South Africa.
She walked into camp and told her fellow stars: "I've got something to tell you all. I didn't feel very well this morning and I had a bit of a funny turn and they've said I can't come back in I've got to go.
"I'm absolutely gutted. I don't want to go."
Beverley broke down in tears about leaving the show, and said to her campmates: "I don't want this to finish. I wanted to prove that older women could do it."
Afterwards, she said: "I had the experience of a lifetime. The people were amazing.
"They were the best bunch of people ever. Yes, we were hungry and we were dirty but it was wonderful."
Beverley and her fellow campmates filmed I'm A Celebrity... South Africa last September, and she shared her heart-breaking diagnosis on the February 6 episode of The Late Late Show.
