I'm A Celebrity...South Africa's Beverley Callard shares big cancer update following surgery
Beverley Callard has revealed the results of her big operation, in which she had three lymph nodes removed as a precaution to ensure the cancer does not spread, on February 20.
Beverley Callard's cancer was removed during an operation - but it had spread to a lymph node.
The Coronation Street legend publicly announced her heartbreaking early-stage breast cancer diagnosis on February 6, and 14 days later, she underwent a big operation, in which she had multiple lymph nodes removed as a precaution to ensure the cancer does not spread.
After an agonising two-month wait to find out the results, Beverley shared a significant health update to Instagram on Thursday (16.04.26) and said her consultant from the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital got in touch to say the surgery "went really well" and they "cut the cancer out".
In the video, the Liz McDonald actress added: "They're pleased with how the surgery went, and they also took three lymph nodes.
"And this is how she explained it to me: the lymph nodes are like a staircase, and if cancer is in the lymph nodes, it sort of tends to climb up the stairs. That's oversimplifying it, but just to help explain."
But a tiny bit of cancer spread to one of Beverley's lymph nodes.
The I'm A Celebrity...South Africa campmate continued: "They took three and cancer is in the first lymph node, it's not in the second, two and three. So it is there, but it's only small."
The lymph node containing the cancer will be "sent to America" to determine "how aggressive" the disease is, which Beverley will find out in "approximately two weeks'” time.
The 69-year-old star added: "If it's aggressive, then I will have to undergo chemo first and then, after that, radiotherapy.
"If it's not aggressive, I will have the radiotherapy as was planned. So, I've just got to wait and see now again."
Beverley felt bittersweet after she found out the results from the big operation.
She explained: "In one way, it was kind of good news that the surgeries worked well, which I'm really pleased about, but because it's in the lymph nodes, it's still a worry. And still a waiting time, which is an absolute pain.
"But there we go, and I'm sure loads of you have been through the same thing. So that's the state of play."
Beverley - who got her heartbreaking diagnosis 20 minutes before filming her first scenes in Dublin-based soap Fair City - has kept her fans up to date on her cancer journey since she publicly revealed her health battle on the February 6 episode of The Late Late Show.
And the entertainer - who, with her husband, Jon McEwan, recently moved from Norfolk to Ireland to play Lily, the long-lost mum of Carrigstown resident Gwen, played by Emily Lamey, in Fair City - has been bombarded with well-wishes, which she will forever be grateful for.
At the end of her latest health update video, Beverley told her supporters: "Thank you for caring. I really appreciate that, very much indeed.
"And what you say to me and the comments you make are truly amazing. Thank you.”
