Alison Hammond claims that she has been approached about Strictly Come Dancing presenting job
Alison Hammond has revealed that she has been approached to become one of the new hosts of Strictly Come Dancing but feels that she is too "busy" to take on the BBC's Saturday night favourite.
Alison Hammond says she has been approached to present Strictly Come Dancing.
The This Morning host competed on the BBC's Saturday night staple in 2014 and claims that she has spoken with executives about the possibility of taking over from long-running hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman - who both departed the programme last year.
Quizzed if she'd held talks about the Strictly job in an interview for the upcoming issue of the Radio Times magazine, Alison said: "I have, actually. You didn't expect that answer, did you? I can't lie, I'm incapable."
However, the 51-year-old star played down the prospect of accepting the role because she is too "busy" with other projects such as presenting The Great British Bake Off.
She said: "I'm so busy, babes, that I'm not sure it's going to happen. It's unrealistic. I'm so happy they considered me but, like Traitors, I can't do it because everything clashes."
Hammond added: "I would have loved to have done it - anybody that gets it, they're going to land the perfect job. But I'm so happy with everything I've got. What would I drop, to do Strictly?"
A whole host of names have been linked with the Strictly job - including Alex Jones, Zoe Ball and Rylan Clark - and the BBC's Chief Content Officer Kate Phillips recently revealed that she has been "inundated" with enquiries about the presenting gig.
She told The Rest Is Entertainment podcast: "Yes - my inbox has been inundated.
"I can't say names obviously but it is one of the best gigs in television so we have had so many people who are keen to be considered which is great. We'll think carefully about next steps on it."
Kate noted that whoever takes over from Tess and Claudia have a high bar to meet.
She said: "They are brilliant, brilliant hosts of that show and they have sparkly high heels that are going to be hard to fill definitely."
It was claimed last month that the BBC were contemplating adding a third Strictly presenter as part of a shake-up for the show.
A source told The Sun newspaper: "Talk recently has turned to whether they could bring in a third host to really freshen it up.
"Nothing is off the table when it comes to sprinkling new magic over Strictly."
