Auf Wiedersehen, Pet star Georgina Lightning has died at the age of 63.
Auf Wiedersehen, Pet star Georgina Lightning has died at the age of 63 following an "equestrian accident" at a rodeo event in Canada.
The actress, who played Lainie Proudfoot in four episodes of the ITV comedy drama, was filming a documentary about the three-day Indian Relay event at the Enoch Rodeo Grounds when tragedy struck.
Alberta RCMP said police responded at 6.40 pm on Saturday (05.09.26) after Georgina was struck by a horse that had veered off course while she was taking photographs from a designated media area.
Paramedics treated her at the scene, but she was pronounced dead.
Georgina had three children, Crystle, Cody and William.
Taking to Facebook on Saturday, Enoch Cree First Nation posted a statement, which read: "Enoch Cree Nation is mourning the loss of a community member following an incident that occurred during this evening's Indian relay event at the Enoch Rodeo Grounds.
"Chief and Council extend our most sincere condolences to the family. Our community is grieving, and we are holding them in our thoughts and prayers."
It added: "The Nation is working with the appropriate authorities as they conduct their investigation, and we will support that process fully.
"Out of respect, we will not be speculating on the circumstances."
Tributes have poured in for Georgina, as her daughter Crystle posted on Facebook: "I have lost my mother, my sons’ Kohkum, my matriarch, my role model, my confidant."
Her Auf Wiedersehen, Pet co-star Tim Healy, 74, penned on X: "RIP Georgina lovely lady and a joy to work with."
And another X user typed: "My heart goes out to the Lightning family at the loss of Georgina Lightning, a filmmaker that has repeatedly broke ground for so many of us in the industry and her shocking loss is a real blow to the community (sic)."
Born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, in July 1963, Georgia starred in four episodes of Auf Wiedersehen, Pet - An Inspector Calls, Another Country, A Bridge Too Far, and Bridge Over Troubled Water.
The series followed the beloved gang of bricklayers to Arizona, where Georgina played Lainie Proudfoot, a Native American woman who became Brian "Bomber" Busbridge's (Pat Roach's) girlfriend and later common-law wife.
Georgina was also known for directing, writing, and starring in the 2008 supernatural thriller film Older than America, becoming the first North American Indigenous woman to direct a major feature film.
The film was inspired by her dad's experience with the Canadian Indian residential school system, as well as other personal family stories.
Before entering the entertainment industry, Georgina worked extensively in childcare, including youth programmes and daycares.
