Eugene Mirman says he is “extraordinarily thankful” after surviving a fiery car crash that left him with serious injuries.

The 51-year-old actor, best known for voicing Gene Belcher in TV show Bob’s Burgers, was involved in a smash earlier this week that saw his vehicle burst into flames after striking a toll plaza.

According to reports and a statement from New Hampshire authorities, the incident took place on Tuesday (31.03.26) when Eugene’s car collided with the Bedford Toll Plaza on the F.E. Everett Turnpike.

Emergency services were alerted after callers reported the vehicle had caught fire and that a driver was trapped inside. Eugene was pulled from the burning car by bystanders, including a state trooper assigned to the security detail of Kelly Ayotte before being transported to hospital with what police described as “serious injuries”.

Eugene has now said online in an update for fans: “Hello everyone! Thank you so much for all the well wishes, love and kind messages from friends and strangers.”

He added: “I am extraordinarily thankful to the heroic people that pulled me from the car and to the warm, kind and talented staff at the hospital that cared for me and got me on the mend!

“I am thankful beyond words to be here and doing relatively alright, all things considered.”

Eugene concluded: “I don’t have my phone, so haven’t been online much. I do not recommend my method of decreasing screen-time.

“If you’re a friend who sent a kind, loving message, you should know that it was hard to not respond with, ‘I’d love to be on your podcast’. I love you all and please take care of yourselves, Eugene.”

A representative for Eugene told People: “Eugene was in a very scary car accident.”

They added: “He wants to thank the bystanders, state police, first responders and hospital staff who saved him.”

The representative also said: “He is grateful to be on the mend. At this time, we kindly ask for privacy for Eugene and his family as he focuses on recovering from his injuries.”

Details of the incident released by the New Hampshire Division of State Police stated: “While units were responding, a veteran State Trooper assigned to Governor Kelly Ayotte’s security detail came upon the crash, saw that the vehicle was actively on fire, and observed the driver was still inside.

“The driver was then pulled from the burning car through a window and brought to safety.”

Bob’s Burgers is a long-running animated hit, praised for its humour, loyal fanbase, critical acclaim and consistent global popularity.
